Practice languages

I practice language skills in various ways. By listening and reading (passive skills) and speaking and writing (active skills).

Watch the news in your target language

I enjoy news bulletins – whether it’s on video or just audio – the topics of international politics interest me. For you (and for myself) I’m adding to this list of YouTube channels, streaming services, TV and radio broadcast stations and other media that you can access online.

German

Tagesschau

Swedish

Nyheter på lätt svenska (News in ‘ligt’ or ‘easy’ Swedish) is, as it says, a simplified version of Swedish with 4 or 5 short topics from Swedish national and European or world news. I have been watching it for years and I love it! Unfortunately they have removed the subtitles in English, which was convenient for me when I was an absolute beginner. Hopefully this news in slow Swedish is just about the level you have too now. You don’t need to understand each word, you can practice in the way you like and pause the video or rewind.
